Reaction to “Microsoft in the Workplace” seminar

I arrived a little late that morning of August 1, 2009, thirty minutes to be exact. It was the date were me and my classmates proposed that a seminar be held. Early that morning, the news broke out that President Cory Aquino died and I was hooked for a while on the television, but that didn’t changed my fate of having to pay a hundred peso to one of my classmate assigned to collect a fine from those who came late. Outside the Engineering Conference hall were students falling patiently in line to register for our seminar entitled, Microsoft in the Workplace. The title made itself clear and explanation is not necessary that our invited speaker, Mr. Erico Dan T. Ocampo, would be discussing all about Microsoft products.


A close door policy was implemented after the strike of nine so that nobody would be walking inside and out the venue. There were almost a hundred forty students who participated and that was surprising for a seminar sponsored by students like us. We were the first, I think, to hold such this semester as a requirement for our subject SEM1. Everybody was eager to get their points completed and that is what I think, the reason everybody is in attendance. UST engineering faculty layoff, a comment from a concerned student

I was saddened by the news that I’ve heard from a friend about some professors leaving the Faculty of Engineering and UST for that matter. She told me that one of our professors just didn’t make it this semester. She asked me to visit a blog post with this address from a concerned student at our faculty so that I can see the issue more clearly and here, I discuss some of the points included in the entry above.

The Thomasian Education System is deeply rooted in tradition. Those deeply rooted in this tradition feel that anything new and radical is a threat to their ways.

Deeply rooted indeed, our university is infamous for our national hero’s disgust over the educational system back when he was still studying here. Though that was way back ages ago, I was surprised to encounter such scenario where my fellow students feel the same way. Read the rest of this entry…
