My struggle to get it right: a novice web designer’s dilemma over browser compatibility issues
I really cannot say that I’ve been through a lot in web design. Until know, I feel that I’m just beginning (and really am). But new or not, every web developer has encountered the same old issue of compatibility and how some non-standard compliant browsers render their precious designs.
As with anything else, there would always be some misfits trying to ruin our day and web development is not exempted to that reality. Developers of some browsers still don’t make them in accordance with the standards set by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) Committees. These hard-headed people cling to their ideals that such rules wouldn’t be enough if it weren’t from them. They still produce and market these browsers and I don’t know what is running on in their heads. If only these people will follow the ‘standards’, web designers like me should’ve called a day’s work and have enough time for watching television.
Fortunately, there is hope remaining in few that someday, the web would be a better place to fit in. Thanks to the Mozilla Foundation and their free browser Firefox, people could have the chance to see websites that the designer intended them to be seen. In the process of web development, Firefox include the best plug-ins that act as tools of aid like the Web Developer’s Toolbar and Firebug. And as all web savvies know, Firefox is the most standard compliant browser in the market today. No ‘box’ issues, misaligned elements and etcetera like with versions of Internet Explorer. My designs render in Firefox smoothly as I intended them to be. Another is that I could be carefree about Firefox’s standing in the browser wars because as of my current research; Firefox has an incredible number of users that surpass half the populace of the internet overall (and still counting). It has beaten the long reign of IE that enjoyed almost 94 percent of internet users.
So do me and yourself a favor, download the latest version of Firefox, Firefox 3.0, and we could live happily ever after (do you love fairy tale ending? Nah, it’s too corny).
