The Pressures of 2nd Semester and the Information Systems Discipline
Finally, I’m feeling the pressure of school works this semester. First was a 6-day schedule from Monday to Saturday from 7 in the morning up to 1 in the afternoon. That might sound normal but it’s difficult for me to wake up that early coming from an evening schedule last semester. I was used to sleeping at around 3 a.m. then waking up at 10 when the sun is already up. Then another would be my research paper more often than not called thesis. But it doesn’t stop there, we have to make a customer relation management system (CRM) for a company which by now we still don’t know. I’m tasked to head this CRM project and I hope we can do this smoothly or else we’re dead.
After the orientation for our thesis, we are given these topics to work on for the information systems (IS) discipline; e-Commerce, e-Governance, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Supply Chain Management (SCM), IT Auditing, Customer Relations Management (CRM), Decision Support System (DSS) and Expert Systems (ES). We have until December 5, 2009 to work on a feasible topic. Though that part was already taken care of because yesterday, our proposed research paper title was approved, we still don’t have a company for our CRM systems. Our class was divided into groups to work on the sub-systems and I asked them for possible companies we could work on. We need a company that’s in line with the service industry that has information as an essential element for their business processes. Now we have in mind several companies, a 3 star hotel chain, a driving school, a dormitory system, and a recruitment agency. We are given also December 5 as deadline for the first chapter of our project which is the requirements and initial analysis.
Although all of these prove much of a challenge, I don’t find it difficult as long as we cooperate and do our part. Our professor requires this system to be web based so we are planning to use PHP and mySQL for the database part. Majority of our class still don’t know PHP but I will provide them some materials to read as soon as possible for our project to push through. I hope everything goes well and may God provide us knowledge and patience for the success of this endeavor.
